[Bglug] Beowulf vs. Distributed OS

2006-12-07 15:00

Just thought you folks might be interested to know that what I've
decided to work on with my soon-to-be cluster: Distributed OS
(specifically building transparent network clusters (collectives) for
GNU Hurd, which is not yet implemented, but has OS hooks available), after
distributed scheduling (a subset of distributed CSPs). I think this
is the best approach because it means I will cut my teeth on
implementing existing distributed algorithms using research papers
already out there, while will help when reading up on both the Hurd
and collectives in general, and the implemention of collectives on the
Hurd.

The hardest part will be not getting too side-tracked by more mundane
projects such as monotone or system rescue stuff.

Cheers,

Daniel

And that's my crabbing done for the day. Got it out of the way early,
now I have the rest of the afternoon to sniff fragrant tea-roses or
strangle cute bunnies or something. -- Michael Devore
